Gaura Purnima — Rupanuga Seva Ashram Opens

Gaura Purnima [March 3, 2007] was celebrated by the devotees in Como by opening of the Rupanuga Seva Ashram, under the auspicious arrangement of the ashram’s registered association, Santuario Dei Santi Nomi [The Sanctuary of the Holy Names]. Deities and devotees are now moved and situated in Switzerland.

The highlight of the one month preparations and two day festival was the installation of the beautiful Deity form of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the golden volcano of divine love. His beauty and effulgence dwarfs that of millions and millions of cupids. True to His descriptions in the sastra Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in His transcendental form that shown like molten gold [Krishna within who is covered by the mood and effulgence of Srimati Radharani].

The opening celebrations were presided over by Srila B.G Narasingha Maharaja, the sevite-acharya of the ashram.

The celebrations included a pushpa-abhisheka, kirtan, bhajans, lectures and sumptuous maha-prasadam for all the devotees.

The ashram has a new commercial grade kitchen with great ovens and large refrigerator for preparing offerings and prasadam for distribution. There is a sannyasi facility for several sannyasis, a brahmachari ashram for the men and a vaishnavi’s ashram. There are also some facilities for visiting devotees.

From the south border of Switzerland one can see the vast expanse of the Alpine Mountains. At a distance of 105 kilometers to the northwest one can see Monte Rosa [15203 ft] the tallest mountain in Switzerland. Just behind Monte Rosa is the famous Mt. Matterhorn [elevation 14693 ft].

Plans for the Rupanuga Seva Ashram include preaching in the local area, [colleges and community halls], video film presentations, prasadam distribution, the opening of a devotee operated restaurant, a farm community and the development of an Indo-Alpine Treking and Cultural Association that will connect interested people and devotees to visits to the Himalayas and to the holy places in India.
